Drove down to SLC got a massage when I arrived which it was a nice way to relax. Kinda chilled on Friday night and ate a lof of PBJ sandwiches! Woke up to a very wet morning. Walked to the train station where the trains were packed full of runners. Went up to the starting line. Lots of security, bomb squads just a lot of everything. The police make all of us get out of the train so the dogs could check the trains.
I was drenched before the race even started. They had a moment of silence for Boston and played Sweet Caroline before the race started. Off we went! Lots of people starting the half and full marathon at the same place and at the same time is almost like a bad idea.
Was able to maitain a pretty good pace during the entire race and I was also very smart about when to gel and used almost every aid station either for water or gatorade which helped a lot. The energy was amazing. Not many people out watching I think because of the weather but the ones that were out were amazing. I saw a little girl who had a sign that said "you are a stranger but I am still proud of you" that just made my day and It gave me lots of encouragement. Lots of cops out and about helicopters watching over us.
The last mile was the hardest like always. But did not stop or slow down at all I knew I would ge to the finish line and I wanted to get there strong. AND I DID!!! PR for me and I was very shocked with my time and my pace I didnt think my little short legs could go that fast. Not a bad race wish the "packets" would have been a little better and wish they would of had blankets at the finish line specially since it was a chilly day and we were all wet. I may sign up again and do it next year. |
